Having a ‘zoo’ of a time!

On Monday, after we watched Holly’s Memorial Day Parade, my sister-in-law, niece and I made our way down to the Detroit Zoo for some fun in the sun! It was a perfect zoo-weather day and most of the animals were out roaming around. The only ones who seemed to be shy were the gorillas!

Here’s Aleria next to the tiger exhibit – she’s such a cutie!

The monkeys were probably my favorite. They were all over the place, running, jumping, climbing. They were having fun and made me laugh.

Aleria couldn’t wait to see the hippos. This one was a little too close for my comfort – but really, if you had one you wouldn’t need a vacuum! Talk about a Hoover! :)

The Detroit Zoo has this awesome polar attraction called the Arctic Ring of Life. It covers over 4 acres and has an Inuit village of the early 1900’s. They also had polar bears and I heard an arctic fox, although we didn’t see any foxes :(

This poor guy looked so warm – I felt pretty bad for him.

When you go inside they have a 70-foot-long clear tunnel that winds through a underwater marine environment. They called it their Polar Passage, which is a twelve-foot-wide, eight-foot-tall tunnel, which takes visitors underneath diving and swimming polar bears and seals – very cool. Plus it offered some cool temps which were refreshing after walking around in 80 degree heat all day.

If you look closely you can see a seal in the water – none of the polar bears were swimming when we were there – Just outside baking in the sun! :)

They also have spectacular butterfly house and bird habitat! I spent most of my time in there just reveling in the wonder! I’m not sure what kind of bird this is but he was too cool!

Then this little guy was too cute not to post! Plus it was perfect for black and white – my fav!

If you’re in the area you should check out the zoo. Admission was very reasonable – only $11 per adult and $7 per child. For more information visit http://www.detroitzoo.org. It’s well worth it!
