Now and Then – The Finale – Part 3 | Holly, Michigan Photographer

We just said goodbye to 2012 and here we are in 2013! Wow. It’s crazy to even say that. 2013. Where has all the time gone? (If you’re just now joining us and you need to start at the beginning and get some back story click HERE.)

Looking back, five years doesn’t seem like a lot of time, but in terms of my growth it was huge. I began with the essentials and have come full circle. I’ve played. I’ve experimented. I’ve messed up. And I’ve excelled.

I feel like I’m at a point where I’ve found where I like to be. I know what I like to do and what I don’t.

I feel like I can deliver what a client wants. I’m proud of that and what I do!

Now if you’re just starting out as a photographer – take away from this blog what you will (and have a good laugh) – but realize, it does take some time to get where you want to be.

My suggestion to you is shoot your little heart out! (OK, not literally, but you know what I mean!) Take on a mentor. Help out or work for established photographers. Join a group (like Detroit Professional Photographer’s Association) where you will learn from seasoned pros. Take classes, seminars and workshops. Experiment. Learn how to use your equipment and use light. But most of all – keep trying and have fun!

Nothing will just fall into your lap. But with the right amount of hard work, knowledge and experience, it will happen.

If you’re not a photographer and just following my story – thank you! I appreciate that and every single person I photograph!

I don’t claim to know everything – I have a ton more learning to do and I don’t plan to stop until I’m at the top! Hope to see you there!

All of the following images were shot with my Canon Mark III with either the 24-70 f2.8 or the 70-200 f2.8.

This first image received my first blue ribbon award from the Detroit Professional Photographer’s Association back in November 🙂
